Due to its flourishing business scenario and historical richness, Rajkot draws hordes of visitors from all around the world. While the city has well laid out rails and roads, there are some travelers who prefer aerial route to reach the city. To serve these travelers, there is a public airport in Rajkot that has daily flights to Mumbai.

Rajkot Airport is also one of the busiest airports in the region of Saurashtra and it attracts third highest traffic in Gujarat after the airports of Ahmedabad and Vadodara. This airport has the terminal with capacity of holding 125 people. The flights are operated by Air India and Jet Airways from this airport which is situated 2 km away from the railway station of Rajkot.

Future plans for Rajkot Airport

With a view to increasing number of air travelers, the authorities are planning to upgrade Rajkot Airport in near future. It was proposed to stretch the runway from current length 1600 m to 1800 m to facilitate bigger aircrafts. Though, these plans are currently not feasible due to growing residential and commercial developments around the airport.

Hence, the Civil Aviation Ministry with Airports Authority of India is planning to initiate a new and bigger airport on Rajkot - Gondal - Jamnagar highway which is nearly 10 km away from the main city. This proposed international airport will be developed on land area of 500 acres and it will have flights to many other cities in the country and world.
