Future plans for Rajkot Airport
With a view to increasing number of air travelers, the authorities are planning to upgrade Rajkot Airport in near future. It was proposed to stretch the runway from current length 1600 m to 1800 m to facilitate bigger aircrafts. Though, these plans are currently not feasible due to growing residential and commercial developments around the airport.Hence, the Civil Aviation Ministry with Airports Authority of India is planning to initiate a new and bigger airport on Rajkot - Gondal - Jamnagar highway which is nearly 10 km away from the main city. This proposed international airport will be developed on land area of 500 acres and it will have flights to many other cities in the country and world.
